Old Shatterhand und später auch Winnetou verbünden sich mit Spürauge und verhindern einen Überfall auf Echo Canyon, eine große Bahnstation. Auf der Flucht überfallen die mit den Zugräubern verbündeten Sioux eine Siedlung und verschleppen alle Bewohner. Bei der Rettungsaktion am Berg Hancock wird Winnetou von einem Sioux erschossen.
