Charles Bukowski:

Bukowski's life was famously dramatised as the basis of the 1987 Mickey Rourke movie, Barfly. Bukowski published more than forty books of poetry and prose including the novels, Post Office and Women. A heavy drinker, gambler and womaniser, Bukowski lived most of his life in the poorer parts of Los Angeles, California, and wrote about his experiences in the low-life milieu of LA's bars, rooming houses and race tracks. LOCKED IN THE ARMS OF A CRAZY LIFE is the first attempt to investigate Bukowski's life and untangle the fact from the mythology. The biography contains extracts from Bukowski's love letters, his poetry and prose, and is illustrated with more than fifty personal photographs. Each chapter is illustrated with an original line drawing by Bukowski.
