American Reader

This book includes readings and documents from the areas of business and economics, literature, politics, the arts, intellectual and social thought, and popular culture. The readings provide an overview of the development of United States culture during the first half of the twentieth century and reflect the diversity of the American experience. The five sections are organized into themes: the progressive era, World War I, the twenties, the great depression, and World War II. It is primarily for students and scholars interested in United States literature and culture and for teachers who develop curricula on American studies.
