The research on the acceptance and use of technology is one of the most developed research streams in the field of information technology management. The motivation for this dissertation was recognizing the huge and ever-growing need for the research on the impact of the organizational characteristics on technology acceptance and the need to fill in the research gap identified by the authors in this area. The main thesis of the dissertation is the statement that it is possible to build a model that will allow, more precisely than currently known models, to identify the determinants of technology acceptance and assimilation in the organization by considering the factors of the organizational context. To reach this goal, an extensive literature analysis was carried out, aimed at isolating the factors of the organizational context influencing the implementation and use of new technologies. The analysis covered 15 digital maturity models proposed by business practitioners and acclaimed scientific theoretical models (DeLone’s and McLean’s Information Systems Success Model, Innovation Diffusion Theory, Technology - Organization - Environment Framework and versions of the Technology Acceptance Model and Unified Technology Acceptance and Use Theory). As a result, 125 organizational variables were identified, based on which - in the process of selection, synthesis and conceptualization - eight organizational variables were formulated and proposed as elements of a new theoretical model. The proposed theoretical model was empirically verified using data collected from the on-line survey. The collected data were analyzed applying the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) methods. The verified model shows that the intention to use technology by an employee is strongly influenced by the managerial skills and the digital organizational culture. The employee's intention to use an IT system is not significantly influenced by his individual assessment of the benefits compared to the effort connected with the system usage. The intention to use a system is influenced 5 by factors external to the user rather than by his individual calculation. Additionally, it was found that organizational knowledge of business processes has a very strong influence on user’s individual calculation of benefits versus efforts. This study provides an interesting perspective on individual technology acceptance by showing the advantage of organizational influence and persuasion over individual assessment of rationality. This finding opens up new research opportunities that would try to explain and connect what is rational for an individual employee with what is rational for the entire organization. I see it as a path to understanding not only the determinants of IT systems use, but also the achievement of a state in which the use of IT systems will bring full return on investment in technologies.
